Forecaster and researcher studying how Western Disturbances, the monsoon and large-scale climate modes combine to produce extreme rainfall over India.
I am a Scientist at the India Meteorological Department with eight years of operational weather forecasting experience, from nowcasting to short- and medium-range forecasts of tropical cyclones, heat waves and monsoonal heavy rainfall. I also train intermediate, middle and advanced level forecasters.
My research focuses on extreme precipitation over Northwest India and the Western Himalayas: the synoptic, dynamical and thermodynamic setup of high-impact events, and how Western Disturbances connect with the monsoon, the MJO and the NAO.

Understanding, and better forecasting, the events that bring the heaviest rain and snow.
Diagnosing record-breaking rain and snow spells over Northwest India and the Western Himalayas.
Lagged composites of θe, moist static energy, CAPE and CINE in the days before heavy rain.
How the Madden–Julian Oscillation and North Atlantic Oscillation modulate Western Disturbance activity.
NWP cyclone track performance, heavy rainfall warning verification and impact-based forecasting.
I am regularly quoted on weather and forecasts in India's national newspapers, and brief television channels on the monsoon.
Open to collaboration on extreme rainfall, Western Disturbances, subseasonal variability and forecaster training.
